Synopsis :
Ram (Dharmendra) and Balram (Amitabh Bachchan) are cousins, but not even the most loving of brothers love each other as they do.

Saraswati (Ram's Mother) raises them both as her two sons. A distant relative Jagatpal (Ajit) comes into the young boys lives through a cruel twist of fate. Jagatpal has his own ideas on how to raise the boys. As years roll by Ram becomes an uneducated, fearless auto mechanic without a conscience and disregard for the law. Balram becomes a dedicated and idealistic Police Officer.

Baba Jagatpal's plans to raise Ram to become the greatest criminal, and Balram to become the strong are of the law turn to reality. Through the years Balram will protect Ram in his wrong doings from the law, benefiting only Baba Jagatpal who has become Seth Jagatpal. Ram Balram are constantly reminded of the gratitude that they owe to Seth Jagatpal, while realizing what they are doing is immoral and wrong.
