Synopsis :
Anil Kapoor is a successful reporter who roasts the chief minister Amrish Puri in course of a live interview. Snapping back, the CM challenges the reporter to step in his shoes for a day on national television. To his surprise, Anil accepts the challenge of being the CM for 24 hrs.

Amrish Puri resigns and names Anil Kapoor as his successor. Anil takes over and begins the clean up, operating on his intuition. He starts with corrupt public servants and suspends every one of them.

With just an hour to go for his term to expire, Anil Kapoor strikes at corrupt and has all corrupt ministers arrested including Amrish Puri. He then calls for elections and returns back legitimately to power as CM. Stunned at the turn of events, Amrish Puri and gang plan revenge.

Rani Mukherji plays Manjari, the simpleton in Anil's complex world. The sunshine when all seems dark. The laughter when there is nothing to smile about.

Nayak has kind of a storyline that appeal to all and sundry. The music is by A.R.Rahman and Anand Bakshi is the lyricist.
