Synopsis :
Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) is the daughter of Pandit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale), renowned exponent of classical music, living in the Rann of Kutch. Within the set up of a huge joint family comprising of almost 25 people, Nandini has been brought up with more freedom and education than her siblings in the family as she is the most beloved of Pundit Darbar.

Into the family comes Sameer (Salman Khan), a boy of Indo-Hungarian parentage, born and brought up abroad. He is a music student, and he now wants to grasp the essence of Hindustani music under the guidance of Pundit Darbar.

Through the course of his one year stay in the household, he and Nandini fall in love right under the very noses of the family members...as the family itself goes through the rituals of different festivals, as well ad changes because of marriages, separations and death.

When their love is finally discovered, Sameer is banished from the household and Nandini wastes and pines until, at the end of her resistance, she tries to kill herself...and fails. Sameer too waits and writes, but her letters don't reach her in time. For the parents have arranged to get her married and she goes through the motions without even looking at the man first. The man she marries has been deeply in love with her and does not force the issue when he confronts Nandini's resistance to him after marriage; all he asks is that they maintain the charade of a completely happy couple for the sake of his sister and parents.

They live in this deceit briefly, until Sameer's letters reach Nadini, and Vanaraj discovers them. And then he shows his true love and wisdom, when he courts and ridicule to take Nandini with him to Hungary in an attempt to search for Sameer. Over a period in which they got through tremendous emotional strain as well as high adventure , Nandini and Vanraj search for him in the city, in cafes, restaurants, music institutions and on the streets but always come up against a dead end. They even visit Sameer's mother at her countryside house but discover that Sameer has already left earlier in the day. Soon the strain of the search shows on Nandini as she falls sick and needs to be hospitalized.

Vanraj selflessly devotes himself to caring for Nandini during her stay in the hospital, She sees her husband's adoration for her and it reaches a point where she realizes she has fallen in love with him. She wishes to drop the search and go back home...but then, they get the news that Sameer will definitely be in a particular place at a particular time. After a last meeting with her ex-lover - both torn apart by conflicting emotions-Nandini runs back to her husband in a joyful reunion!
